Recreational Therapy
Childcan's support group will guide you through how play-time can be therapy-time!
“Our daughter Maya counted the days until the next (Recreational Therapy) session, asking me how many more sleeps. Maya looked forward to spending time with us and with the other families. Maya was sad that our sessions ended.”
Good news Maya! Recreational Therapy continues in both London and Windsor!
All Childcan families are welcome to register, whether you've previously participated or not.
This therapy is for your whole family. Spots are limited. There is no cost to attend. No experience is necessary as you will be guided through the entire process by the specialists at Jess Jones Recreational Therapy Inc. Jessie is a Childcan Mom.
In Windsor, we will continue to partner with our friends at Little Hands Kids for a Cause in 2025, with sessions running on the second Sunday of each month, from 1-3pm at the Community Support Centre of Essex County, 962 Old Tecumseh Rd, Unit 4, Belle River, ON N0R 1A0. See map here. The next sessions include:
Leisure Swap Shop: Try Something New, Share What You Love (Families share a simple leisure skill or interest they enjoy - such as origami, storytelling, card tricks, or drawing - and then teaches it to others at mini “swap stations”). Note, this session will be on May 25, 2025.
The Pause Project: Designing Restful Rhythms (Through guided discussion, slow sensory-based activities, and reflection, families create their own "rest rhythm plan" and identify ways to intentionally integrate restful, restorative moments into their daily lives).
Please note: May and June are open for registration! Sign up for as many of these sessions as you’d like here.
In London, the program will run on the first Wednesday of each month, from 6:30-8:30pm at:
Hutton House, 654 Wonderland Rd N, London, ON N6H 3E5. See map here. The next sessions include:
Nature Walk and Scavenger Hunt Adventure - meet at Gibbons Park, 2A Grosvenor St, London, ON N6A 1Y4. See map here.
Barriers & Bridges: LEGO Therapy-Inspired (families identify and creatively explore the real-life barriers to leisure they face - using LEGO bricks and symbolic materials to build both obstacles and the bridges they’ll need to move forward).
Sign up for as many of these sessions as you’d like here.
Note: There is no cost to attend. Your commitment to the program is so important to the vitality of it, please register asap, to confirm the number of participants. We do need a minimum of 2 families to run the program with a maximum of 25 participants.
We are so grateful to the Solcz Family Foundation
for their generous support of this program.
