as told by her mom, Kristin.
My daughter Ava was diagnosed in July 2014 with Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG), at age 7. DIPG is an incurable, inoperable cancerous brain tumour. We were told on diagnosis day that at best she would live nine months to a year. Our world as we knew it changed that day. We were absolutely heartbroken, but immediately our mission was to master her bucket list and make as many memories in the short time we had left.
When we first met Renee from Childcan, she came into Ava’s hospital room with arms full of thoughtful items (beautiful pillow cases, a quilt, gift certificates, food vouchers, money, etc.) to help us deal with being stuck in the hospital. Renee was a smiling face amongst some dark days that we very much needed. Childcan was always there to help out in any way possible and to lend an ear or shoulder. They truly get invested in all the families that they reach.
Childcan is a charity that truly helps families. Thank you, Childcan.
